Count Di Luna’s youngest son has been bewitched! The gypsy woman responsible is taken care of, she is being burned on the stake. Her daughter, however, took revenge by kidnapping the bewitched child, and when the body of a child is found among the smouldering remnants of the burning, everyone assumes that this is Di Luna’s youngest child. A great tragedy to the cursed Count. When, years later, the remaining son has taken his father’s place, he is madly in love with Leonora, but she has fallen for the minstrel Manrico. One thing follows another and the two love rivals end up in a duel. The minstel gets the chance to kill the Count, but something inside him tells him not to and he lets his adversary go. Wounded, Manrico returns to his mother, who tells him from a trance that she was the one who kidnapped the Count’s bewitched child all those years ago and that the delirium made her throw her own son onto the stake. Manrico is actually the lost son, and the Count’s brother…
