Puccini - La Boheme

This opera tells the story of young artists who live under poor circumstances. Rodolfo and Marcello share a house but have little money. When their friends invite them to a party Marcello does not hesitate, but Rodolfo stays behind to work. When the girl next-door, Mimi, comes knocking, the two quickly fall very much in love. But Mimi is ill, she suffers from typhoid. Rodolfo convinces her to go with him to his friends, where they also meet with Musetta, Marcello’s former girlfriend. Marcello and Musetto get back together but soon get into a terrible fight. Rodolfo has meanwhile found out about Mimi’s disease and he thinks she will be better off with a wealthy lover. Mimi, however, loves her poet and tries to talk Marcello into convincing Rodolfo. During this conversation, Rodolfo enters the room and Mimi hides herself. Her cough gives her away though and the two get back together. Their happiness does not last long, however: not lang after, Mimi dies in her lover’s arms. Recorded at the Teatro Real in 2006, starring Inva Mula, Laura Giordano and Aquiles Machado.
